Before we jump into the details of this delicious vegan matcha eggnog latte, I think I need to confess. Pre-vegan, I did not like eggnog. It was such a gross concept to me. However, recently, I had a friend mention that she tried a vegan eggnog made from oat milk and really enjoyed it! She had been in the “eggnog is gross” camp all her life until that point. I was so confused as to how someone just suddenly becomes an eggnog lover, but she began to describe it and it made sense. Eggnog is just a sweet, creamy, spicy and comforting drink. I love all those things, so why wouldn’t I love this drink? So, I decided to give it a try and I am sure glad that I did.
I can’t pinpoint if it was just my matured taste buds, or perhaps maybe the non-dairy eggnog version is superior. I’ll never know. But I have to admit, I really liked it! My first introduction to vegan eggnog was in this vegan matcha eggnog latte and what a way to get acquainted! The delicious spiced milk added such a festive touch to my very favourite beverage, the matcha latte. To make this vegan matcha eggnog latte, I used the Earth’s Own Oat Nog. That said, I’m sure there are other yummy plant-based/vegan eggnog options out there.
The Magic of Eggnog
For anyone who doesn’t know, eggnog is a rich and creamy beverage associated with the holiday season. Often with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, these spices bring a cozy vibe to this festive drink. It will certainly get in the holiday spirit. It truly is a delightful treat that you can enjoy either chilled or warm depending on your personal preference.
Making your Matcha Latte Vegan
Making a latte vegan is easy! It simply entails swapping your milk to non-dairy versions. For this vegan matcha eggnog latte, I used oat milk. Oat milk is great for enhancing that creamy texture and is my preferred choice for my warm and cold lattes.

Matcha Eggnog Latte: What you need for this festive treat
Matcha:
This drink is so easy to make and you can customize the ratios to find your perfect latte blend. I use about 1.5 tsp of matcha powder and pour it into the bowl, gently passing the powder through a fine mesh sieve first (a tiny mesh strainer). This sieve step isn’t crucial but it does elevate the matcha experience by removing clumps and creating a smoother texture.
Then you add about a ¼ cup hot water to the bowl. You don’t want boiling water as too much heat can dull the flavour. You’ll wan’t the water somewhere around 175f / 80c temp wise. So once your kettle boils, pour out what you need and set aside. Allow it to cool while you grab the rest of your stuff. Then, add the water to your matcha bowl, grab your whisk and blend the matcha powder and water together. Use a quick zig-zag motion to whisk the matcha until frothy and clumps disappear.
Non-Dairy Milk to Eggnog Ratio:
As much as I am enthused with eggnog, I didn’t necessarily want the entire milk portion to be eggnog. I decided to go for a half-and-half ratio – half parts oat milk and half parts vegan eggnog. This blend allows for the familiarity of a classic matcha latte with the slightest spiced and comforting festive taste of the eggnog. I decided to top the drink with a little eggnog cold foam, because who doesn’t love a drink topped with foam? It tastes exactly like a latte you’d get at your local coffee shop?

Matcha Eggnog with an Extra Festive Touch
If serving at a gathering, I recommend pouring the eggnog into little plastic holiday ornaments for a cute presentation. I also topped the rim of my glass with some cute gingerbread cookies that were delicious to dip.
