3 jars of Chocolate Strawberry Oats

Overnight oats have become extremely popular, and for good reason. They’re incredibly versatile, easy to make, and can be customized to fit your dietary preferences and taste. Whether you’re rushing out the door in the morning or just looking for a convenient and nutritious start to your day, overnight oats are the perfect solution. In this post, I’ll walk you through making your new favourite breakfast option.

What Are Overnight Oats?

Overnight oats are simply oats that have been soaked in liquid overnight. This process allows the oats to absorb the liquid and soften, resulting in a creamy, ready-to-eat breakfast by morning. Unlike traditional oatmeal, which requires cooking, overnight oats are prepared raw and left to soak in the fridge.

I like to grab an extra boost of protein by adding chia seeds to my overnight oats.

Tips for Perfect Overnight Oat

  1. Choose the Right Oats: Old-fashioned rolled oats work best for overnight oats. Avoid using quick oats or steel-cut oats, as they won’t give you the same creamy texture.
  2. Add extras: Whether it’s chia seeds, or flax meal, adding superfoods like these will boost the nutritional value of your breakfast prep.
  3. Mix Well: Ensure all the ingredients are well mixed to prevent clumping.
  4. Adjust Consistency: If your oats are too thick in the morning, add a bit more liquid until you reach the desired consistency.
  5. Experiment with Liquids: I use oat milk but feel free to experiment with almond, soy, or coconut or other non-dairy milk to play with texture and taste.

Overnight Oats: A Simple Breakfast Meal Prep

I find breakfast to be my most difficult meal. I’m not a morning person so trying to think of a breakfast option while still half asleep is something I struggle with. That is why I batch-prep my overnight oat jars. Do yourself a favour and make multiple jars at once to save time during the week. That way all you have to do is wake up and grab breakfast. Overnight oats can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Ingredients for the Delicious Chocolate Strawberry Overnight Oats

Chocolate and strawberry is such a classic flavour combo that I love even more when it’s for breakfast. There is something about the subtle sweetness that makes it feel like the perfect way to start the day. Sometimes I enjoy sweet, and other times I’m craving savoury, so this is perfect for those sweeter hankerings.

This overnight oats breakfast prep is incredibly easy, with little effort but a high reward. A sweet tasty breakfast that will keep you nourished and full for the first part of your day. Let’s get into the ingredients.

Chocolate Overnight Oats:

  • Rolled Oats
  • Chia Seeds
  • Chocolate Milk (I used non-dairy chocolate oat milk)
  • Maple Syrup

Strawberry Yogurt:

Toppings:

  • Chocolate Granola
  • Sliced Strawberries

The freeze-dried strawberry powder is completely optional. You could always substitute it by just using strawberry-flavoured yogurt. I used the freeze-dried strawberry powder because it added an extra flavour and more of a pink colour.

Steps: Making the Chocolate Strawberry Overnight Oats

This recipe makes four jars. When reading the ingredients, simply divide the measurements by 4 for each jar.

Step 1: Make your overnight oats. In 4 separate jars, combine your rolled oats, chia seeds, chocolate milk, cocoa, a scoop of yogurt and maple syrup. Stir it and let it sit for at least 2 hours.

Step 2: In a large bowl, combine your yogurt and strawberry and mix to combine. Add the yogurt layer to your 4 overnight oats jars.

Step 3: Add your toppings. Please note that if you add the granola at this point it may get a little soggy in the jar. You could always put it in a separate container with your strawberry slices for the day of when you go to enjoy.

Overnight oats are a fantastic way to simplify your mornings and ensure you have a nutritious start to your day. There are so many flavour possibilities and minimal prep time, they’re an ideal breakfast choice for busy lifestyles. Click here to check out my other overnight oats recipes.
